MGM College celebrated its 9th Annual Freshers’ Programme on 22 August with a spirited blend of formal ceremonies and cultural showcases, welcoming the newest batch of students into the college community.
The formal session was steered by hosts Mr Paul Munda and Miss Rose Debbarma, creating a dignified and engaging atmosphere for the proceedings. The event was graced by Chief Guest Mrs D. Ledia Awomi, President of the Ethnic Group of Nagaland, whose presence lent special significance to the occasion.
Also in attendance were Guest Judge Miss Alo A. Yepthomi, Miss Sumi 2024 Second Runner-up, and guest artistes Ms Keren and Ms Wobeni, with a solo performance by Mr Obed adding to the vibrancy of the celebration.

The programme opened with an invocation by Ms Ahikali I. Jakha, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, followed by a warm welcome address from Mr Mughapu Swu, President of MGMSC. A special musical performance by Inavitoli Swu uplifted the audience, setting the tone for the rest of the event.
Fr Giju George, Administrator of MGM College, delivered an encouraging address underscoring the role of the freshers’ programme in fostering a sense of belonging and unity among students. A key highlight was the Introductory Round, where freshers showcased their talents and personalities. Representing the new entrants, Mr Epikhao expressed gratitude to the college community and eagerness to embark on the academic journey at MGM.
Chief Guest Mrs D. Ledia Awomi concluded the formal session with an inspiring speech, sharing wisdom and personal experiences while motivating students to pursue excellence with determination.
Hosted by Mr Hamlei Konyak and Miss Lipeka Chishi, the informal session brought a lively and festive spirit to the auditorium. Cultural performances, artistic displays, and entertainment segments kept the audience engaged throughout. The formal and questioning rounds of the Freshers’ Contest added a competitive edge, testing participants on knowledge, confidence, and creativity.
