Taking shelter from a natural disaster is stressful enough, but Zoë Kravitz faced an unforgettable twist when her mom’s pet snake slipped away inside Taylor Swift’s Los Angeles home during the early-2025 wildfires. The mishap turned a safe refuge into the setting for a tense and delicate rescue mission.
During the fierce wildfires earlier this year, Swift offered her 1930s-era Los Angeles home as a safe haven. Kravitz and her mother, Lisa Bonet, stayed there for about two weeks while the fires burned nearby. The residence, with its vintage charm and intricate details, made Kravitz especially careful about being a respectful guest.
Among the few comforts in that disorienting period was the family’s pet snake, Orpheus. Bringing the reptile along was simply part of adjusting to life on the move. But the combination of temporary displacement, a treasured historic home, and an active pet soon created the conditions for an unusual household drama.

The trouble began when Bonet set Orpheus down for a brief moment in the house. Swiftly seizing an opportunity to explore, the snake slipped into a narrow gap near a built-in banquette close to a bathroom area and vanished inside the structure. Realizing what had happened, Kravitz felt panic rising.
The thought of their pet lodged inside the hidden spaces of a friend’s delicate, decades-old home was alarming. A search began that required extreme care, as they worked to find Orpheus without causing irreversible damage to the historic property.
The process involved removing portions of the built-in fixtures to gain access to the snake’s hiding place. The age and unique craftsmanship of the house meant every move demanded precision.

From that point, the focus remained on retrieving Orpheus safely and ensuring that any alterations to the home would be repaired properly.
